Welcome to Kalum Kathriarachchi`s Home Page

I have received my Bachelor degree from University of Ruhuna, Matara, Sri Lanka in 2002. With that I flew to Japan for my postgraduate studies. In Japan I engaged in many researches in the field of chemistry and obtained master degree from Tohoku University, Sendai in 2005 with specialization in organic and organometallic chemistry under the supervision of Prof. Yoshinori Yamamoto at department of chemistry. After completing my master degree, I began my Doctoral research in same department under guidance of Prof. Yoshinori Yamamoto and Prof. Masahiro Terada. During his doctoral research, I have synthesized various heterocyclic compounds using palladium-catalyzed reaction of methyleneaziridines.

After earning my doctoral degree in 2008, I joined at Kyoto University, Japan as a postdoctoral research fellow in Prof. Masaharu Nakamura laboratory. In 2009 August, I have been awarded the JSPS Postdoctoral fellowship. During my stay at Kyoto University, I focused on iron-catalyzed cross coupling reactions and synthesis of new ligands for the iron catalysis.

My research interests are development of new reagents and methods for the organic synthesis with an emphasis on transition metal  catalysis; elucidation of reaction mechanisms.

Up to now I have over ten years working experience in the field of chemistry holding different capacities.

Thank you very much for visiting Kalum Kathriarachchi`s personal website.
